Tomiki-Aikido

Tomiki-Aikido is developed by Sensei Kenji Tomiki (1900-1979). Before he studied Aikido under O Sensei he was a student of the founder of Judo, Jugiro Kano. The greatest difference between Tomiki-Aikido and other Aikido-styles is the fact that Tomiki-Aikido has competitions, Tomiki Sensei also believed that studying a limited amount of moves would lead to perfection sooner. Tomiki-Aikido consists of two elements; - kata (prescribed movements), these are used to perfecting the technique. - Randori (free attack/defense), this consists of 17 basic movements and trains reflexes and alertness. For some Tomiki-Aikido is an Aikido-style that isn't true to O Sensei's teachings (no competition). For others the competition-element is what makes them choose to practice Tomiki-Aikido.
