Aikibudo

Aikibudo is the style that O Sensei originally teached when he founded his own school (ca. 1930). At first this style was meant only for high ranking officers, royalty and budo-specialists. Around 1942 the style that O Sensei teached and his thoughts about it where so much changed that he changed the name Aikibudo into Aikido. Around 1950 Aikibudo (under the name Aikido Jujutsu Yoseikan) was brought to europe by Sensei Minoru Mochizuki. He trained two people in france that are responsible of the development of Aikibudo in europe. They where Sensei Jim Alcheik (?-1960) and his student, Sensei Alain Floquet(1939-?). In 1980 Alain Floquet got the permission of Sensei Minoru Mochizuki to use the name Aikibudo instead of Aikido Jujutsu Yoseikan. He also contacted Sensei Tokimune Takeda, the head of Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu and integrated a part of this school into Aikibudo, the same happened with the weaponschool Katori Shinto Ryu. In comparison to other Aikido-styles Aikibudo is often referred to as a "harder" or more "square" style of Aikido. This comes from the fact that the influences of Daito Ryu Jujutsu are more evident in this style than others.
